OCEAN SWIM 2022
The Napier Port Ocean Swim is to be held on Saturday morning 19th February 2022 at Perfume Point/Hardinge Road Reserve, Ahuriri, Napier (same as previous years).
If the weather and sea conditions change for the worse our alternative location is Pandora Pond.
Covid Response Plan
The Napier Port Ocean Swim 2022 will be run under the official Ministry of Health Covid -19 Protection Framework - The Traffic Light System.
All participants, officials and contractors over the age of 12years and 3months will need to be double vaccinated and show their Covid Vaccination Certificates (CVC's) at race pack collection on Friday afternoon (see below for details).
All participants and spectators/supporters will need to QR scan into the event, wear face masks and maintain 1m distancing from each other (where practical). Swimmers on entering the marshalling/race briefing area can take off their masks but must put them back on once they have completed their race and exited the race finish area.
Currently Hawke's Bay is in the Orange Traffic Light "level." If we are still there (or Green) by race day we will be able to run the event as per normal other than the above covid safety rules.
We believe we will be able to run the event if we move to the Red Light "level" also, however we need more clarity about staging open water sporting events in the Red "level" from the MoH and we may have to limit the popular 2.5km race to the first 100 swimmers who enter.
Our full Covid Response Plan is available on our website www.napierportoceanswim.co.nz under Waivers, Terms & Conditions tab. It is a working document and will be updated as we receive new information from MoH and experiences from other open water events that will be staged before February 2022.
Event cancellation due to Covid restrictions
If the event is cancelled due to government imposed restrictions as a result of Covid 19 the organisers will refund swimmers 90% of their entry fees. NB: the registration fee of $1 and 5% is non refundable. We sincerely hope it dosn't come to this!
