UPDATE
Although online registrations have closed, we are able to take limited late entries on Sunday at the Hatuma Half Marathon. Please see the 'check-in' schedule below to ensure you arrive on time to do your late entry!
ROAD CLOSURE NOTE: if you are travelling from north of Waipukurau, there is a State Highway 2 road closure between Waipukurau and Waipawa from 8.30am - 2.30pm.
The closure shouldn't affect Half Marathon Walkers as you will be at the event prior to the road closure.
However ALL 10km participants AND Half Marathon runners should allow an additional 20 - 30 minutes of travel time (minimum) into your schedule due to detours in place.
Alternatively participants coming from Napier/Hastings and beyond could travel via State Highway 50 to avoid the detour altogether.
- Drivers will be detoured via Lindsay Road and Onga Onga Road in both directions during this time.
- The detour route is suitable for all vehicles.
- People are advised to plan ahead, allow additional time for their journeys and take extra care on the detour route.
_______________________________________________________________
Into it's 4th decade and still going strong, the Hatuma Half Marathon is very much a highlight on the local sporting calendar. From humble beginnings back in 1980 when a group of running enthusiast friends got together and took on the challenge to create a running event here in Central Hawke's Bay. Since then the event has continued to grow and has built up a reputation for being a well organised event to be shared with family & friends event in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
The Half Marathon starts and finishes at the Waipukurau Racecourse. This picturesque venue is able to accommodate ample off-street parking and has picnic areas and facilities. The course takes in the entire circumference of Lake Whatumā, going in a clockwise direction. This mostly flat course, with a 5km stretch of undulations (around the 10-15km mark), provides for a very pleasant and scenic event that continues to attract both local and outside participants.
