Counties Cycle Classic will be held each year just prior to the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge – another Rotary initiative. Our event which runs through some of New Zealand’s richest growing country with spectacular scenery gives cyclists a chance to blow out the cobwebs in preparation for Taupo, or just enjoy a day’s ride in the picturesque Franklin countryside.
The rides start and finish at the Pukekohe Intermediate School,44-74 Queen, Pukekohe 2120 and go west of Pukekohe on roads with very little traffic and great scenery. There is a short stretch on the Pukekohe – Waiuku road that has a moderate level of traffic then it’s all nice quiet country roads. All roads are sealed and open to the public. The exception will be the start and finish in Edinburgh street, at the rear exit of the school where the road will be closed. Care is needed at all times. and road rules must be obeyed. Cyclists must not cross the centre line and where there is no centre line you must keep to the left side of the road.
Electric Bicycles
Counties Cycle Classic is pleased to announce the introduction of a new category for electric bicycles sponsored by Counties Power. The Counties Power Electric Bike race will be on the 32km route and will start 5 minutes after the 42km ride. Any electric bikes are eligible so long as they have pedals and can be ridden by pedal power alone. (electric motorcycles are not allowed)
