MEGAwalk for The Acorn Project Hawke's Bay
This social event, now in its 16th year and is all about getting people out for a walk to enjoy the fabulous scenery that makes Hawke’s Bay so special. There are four events, to cater to all fitness levels and physical abilities. We have a varied array of participants from the very young to the young at heart and the finely tuned athletes to those with physical challenges who each year inspire us and show great determination in completing the event.
Over the past 15 years MEGAwalk has raised over $275,000 that has gone directly to young people and their families in Hawkes Bay living with cancer. Again, we are very pleased to announce all proceeds raised will be donated to The Acorn Project Hawke’s Bay.
This year all funds raised will stay locally in Hawke’s Bay, being donated to The Acorn Project Hawke’s Bay. The Acorn Project provides a wraparound support service for young people 12 - 24 years and their families living with cancer in Hawkes Bay. Support is tailored to the individual needs of the member and will include 1-1 face to face Youth Worker support, peer to peer support with other local members and monthly activities. The Acorn Project believes that 12 - 24 year old young people living in Hawkes Bay deserve the opportunity to access the type of cancer support that best suits their needs, which makes them feel visible, empowers them to make decisions and choices about their future and to be given the support needed to share those thoughts and express them.
FOUR EVENTS TO CHOOSE FROM
The Mitre 10 MEGA 23km is a run or walk. The event starts at Clive Grange Domain Reserve, 6/4 Domain Road, Haumoana at 7.00am. Participants will follow a clearly defined route along the river bank trails through to Clive and continuing along the costal trails. From here it follows the pathway to Ahuriri and the finish line. Average time to complete is 4.5 hours. To ensure safe operation of the event, there is a cut-off point at the 12km point at Awatoto and participants should have passed this point by 9.30am.
The Dunlop 12km run or walk that starts at Awatoto - opposite the southern end of the Fertiliser Works - at 9.00am. This event also follows the pathway along Marine Parade to Ahuriri and the finish line. Average time to complete is 2.5 hours.
The Harcourts 5km run or walk hich starts at The Spirit of Napier on the Marine Parade at 10.00am. Average time to complete is 1hour.
The Langley Twigg Law 3km run or walk starts behind Ocean Spa on the Marine Parade at 10.30am. Average time to complete is 36minutes.

RACE PACKS
As part of the entry fee all entrants receive an event pack containing a Hi-Vis vest and other goodies that have been provided by local businesses (subject to availability). You should bring along your own drink bottle. There will be refreshment stops with water filling facilities and toilets at regular intervals (see course map). Race packs will be given out at the time of registration in-store. For online registrations, you can collect your race pack and/or bus pass from in-store anytime up until the event or on the morning of. Please bring your Onetime email confirmation receipt along for collection. Race packs will be available for collection from 1st October.
TRANSPORT
Tranzit Coachlines Hawke’s Bay kindly subsidise buses for the day to get participants between start points and finish line at Te Karaka Reserve (Perfume Point). Bus passes are $5 each which is payable when registering.
Pre-Event to the start points
- Mega Walk 23km departing 6.15am from 46 Nelson Quay, Ahuriri to 6/4 Domain Road, Haumoana, Hastings.
- Dunlop 12km departing 8.20am from 46 Nelson Quay, Ahuriri to State Hwy 51, Awatoto, Napier.
- Harcourts 5km departing 9.30am from 46 Nelson Quay, Ahuriri to 26 Marine Parade, Bluff Hill, Napier.
There is no pre event Bus for the Langley Twigg Law 3km starting at Ocean Spa, please book the afternoon Bus.
Post Event return to start points, departing at 11.50am
- 46 Nelson Quay, Ahuriri to Ocean Spa then onto Spirtit of Napier
- 46 Nelson Quay, Ahuriri to Awatoto then onto Haumoana Domain.
Please note: If you think you may not be able to complete the event before the last bus departs, it is suggested that you only take the morning bus to your start point.
GET EVERYONE INVOLVED
We want everyone involved in this awesome event and we don't care how you do it, so bring along the kids with their scooters or bikes, Grandma on her mobility scooter and even the dog (if he is good on the leash and doesn't mind crowds). THE FINISH LINE at Te Karaka Reserve (Perfume Point)
Join in the fun at the ANZ Finish line. There will be a lot going on! For the kids there will be face painting, balloon twisiting, arts and crafts, games and bouncing. There will be spot prizes galore to be given out! The girls from Bay Cheer will be cheering you as you cross the finish line. Relax with music, grab a drink, ice cream and sausage or two and enjoy the satisfaction of completing your event as well as supporting a great local charity. Finish Line activities will run from 9.30-12.30pm.
COMPETITIONS
Prizes will be presented at the Prize Giving at 11.30am at the finish line.
- Best Fancy dress 23km, 12km, 5km and 3km. Prize for the wackiest costume worn on the course, you will need to be at prize giving to enter.
- Largest whanau team - The family who has the largest number of family members participating on the day.
- Largest corporate team - The local business with the largest number of participants on the day will also be rewarded.
Plus, we will be throwing out 100s of random spot prizes at the finish line. Along the track keep your eyes peeled as you may find something worth picking up!
