Tineli Winter Series 2023

What is the Tineli Winter Series?

  • A series of 4 graded road races run by the Kapiti Cycling Club for Grades A - E
  • Run on a safe and marshalled course, with an approved traffic management plan
  • Points for each race are awarded and accumulate over the series, with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each grade.
  • Prizes are Tineli gift vouchers - $150 to first, $100 to second, $50 to third points holders in each grade
  • A leader's jersey will be awarded to the leading rider in each grade, which will be worn the following race. The overall grade winners of the series are awarded the jersey as well as their prizemoney.
  • The leading female (on points) across all grades will be awarded a leader's jersey also, to be worn the following race. The overall female leader of the series (on points) will be awarded the jersey to keep.

With Transmission Gully AND the Otaki Expressway now open, those coming from Wellington should have a smooth and quick trip up (around 40 minutes from central Wellington) to Te Horo, and it's a smooth trip from Manawatu in less than 1 hour to Te Horo too!

We're also offering junior prices this year - to help families and encourage the young riders to play too.

  • $40 per race* for non-KCC members
  • $20 per race* for KCC members
  • $15 per race* for non-KCC junior members (U17)
  •  $5 per race* for KCC junior members (U17)

(Pro tip: become a member!  Join us now, click here )

* While we've held the price of individual races to the same as last year, we are going to increase the late registration fee, from $10 to $15 to encourage you to enter early!  On race days we have over 80 riders to register and allocate timing chips to and registrations on the day are time consuming.  So please register before 5pm the night before (Fridays) to help us out and to save yourself $15 per race!

Pro tip: Enter now and job's done! or put it in your calendar now, then follow us on Facebook for reminders and updates. :)

NB: the $15 late fee applies to all race categories and prices.

After last year's successful trial, we will run three of the races on our regular 22 km course and to mix things up, one race (race 3) on the ’Short & Spicy’ 6.2 km circuit.

22km Circuit:

Grades A and B - 3 laps (61 kms)
Grades C and D - 2 laps (40.6kms)
Grade E - 1 lap (20.3 kms)

6km Circuit:

Grades A and B - 7 laps (44 kms)
Grades C and D - 5 laps (31.5 kms)
Grade E - 3 laps (18.6 kms)

Both courses are in great condition and for those thinking about entering the North Island Teams Series - come and practice at the Winter Series, as our regular course will be used for one of the races.

Registration and Parking

As usual, the registration and start/finish will be at the Te Horo Community Hall, School Rd, Te Horo.  Parking is available at the packing sheds across the road, or on nearby Gear Rd.  Please help us keep everyone safe and do not park on the course or on people's grass berms (thereby helping keep the neighbours on-side too!.

After each race, everyone is invited back to Ruth Pretty's Garden cafe (just over the road from the Hall) for coffee, cake and results - including the presentation of the leader's jerseys for each grade.  And where Ruth's Rider of the Day will be awarded.

If you can help out and marshall one or two of the races, we'd love to hear from you!  Please give Gary a call on 027 440 5053.   Marshalling pays in points (5) - which can be helpful (another pro tip!!)  Anyone can be a marshall - full training given - members and non-members.  And the 5 points that come with marshalling are available to all registered riders.

How do the points work?

Each week, points are totalled to give a leaderboard in each grade.  Points are allocated as follows:

1st place = 16 points

Places 2nd to 9th place = descending value through to 9th, which receives 2 points

All other finishers 1 point

Marshalls = 5 points (points can only be earned once during the series)
