Counties Cycle Classic will be held each year just prior to the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge – another Rotary initiative. Our event which runs through some of New Zealand’s richest growing country with spectacular scenery gives cyclists a chance to blow out the cobwebs in preparation for Taupo, or just enjoy a day’s ride in the picturesque Franklin countryside.
The rides start and finish at the Pukekohe Park Raceway and go west of Pukekohe on roads with very little traffic and great scenery. There is a short stretch on the Pukekohe – Waiuku road that has a moderate level of traffic otherwise it’s all nice quiet country roads. All roads are sealed and open to the public, and Marshals will direct riders at key parts of the course. Care is needed at all times. and road rules must be obeyed. Cyclists must not cross the centre line and where there is no centre line must keep to the left side of the road.
Electric Bicycles
Counties Cycle Classic will again run a special category for Electric Bicycles. This will be on the 52km route and will take the form of a timed trial where riders are given a target time to complete the course. The closest to that target wins. Any electric bikes are eligible so long as they have pedals and can be ridden by pedal power alone. (electric motorcycles are not allowed)
